Important Printing Considerations

You might wish to consider the following factors when creating or supplying a custom business card for printing:

Bleed and Trim
Always ensure that there is enough room around your design to compensate for bleed and trim. If you are using our online designer for your business card design then this factor will be taken into account for you (via indicator lines on the designer).
Paper Quality
When printing business cards, one of the most important aspects is the quality of the paper used. It doesn't matter how good your design is - if the paper is of poor quality it will reflect badly on you. High quality paper however can have a very good effect, putting forward a professional 'no expense spared' message.
Colours
The end result of business card printing is largely affected by the colours present within the design. If you are aiming for a striking, memorable design you could use strong, contrasting colours. However for a more standard business card, subtle and complimentary colours may be the way to go. Bear in mind the colours you choose may not always come out exactly as you expect when the business card is printed, especially if you choose low quality paper.
Uniqueness
This factor may be more one of design than printing (for design tips, view our page on how to 'make your own business cards'), however if you want your business card to be effective when printed, it will need to be unique. Try including any unique selling points your business may have, or employ a professional to do the design for you.
